Using your car as a generator. This video shows how to use your car's alternator to make electricity for your home to use during power outages. The setup uses a Cobra 1500 Watt power inverter to make the AC power from the DC batteries, two Diehard 105 Amp-hour marine deep-cycle batteries, an automatic battery charger, and a set of 6 gauge Duralast jumper cables. It features a automatic battery backup switch to put the inverter online instantly when the power goes out. The inverter I purchased online from Amazon, the batteries and charger are from Sears, the jumper cables are from Auto Zone, and the automatic switch is something I invented and built myself.
This was how we kept the lights on and the refrigerator running during Hurricane Sandy.
